In 2009, through the rigorous investment guidance of Akron Community Foundation, the Gay Community Endowment Fund returned 18.4 percent. In addition, your contributions, pledges and support of the annual Sugar Plum Tour added over $34,000 of new investment toward the future of the GCEF and its mission. At year’s end, the fund balance of more than $584,000 was a significant improvement from the prior year’s, catapulting us out of the depthsof the economic recession.

Fund’s largest grant ever to support the Akron Pride Center
The Gay Community Endowment Fund of Akron Community Foundation awarded grants totaling $32,994 to nine greater Akron nonprofit organizations, including the largest grant in the fund’s history: $10,000 for the Akron Pride Center “Building Pride” capital campaign. The Akron Community Foundation board ratified the grants Friday, Nov. 14 at its quarterly meeting.

AKRON, Ohio - 2007 was a year of continued growth of the Gay Community Endowment Fund. Through the generosity of our donors, record-breaking income from the 2007 Sugar Plum Tour, and prudent investment strategies by Akron Community Foundation, the corpus of the fund grew from $618,523 at the end of calendar year 2006 to $678,538 at the end of 2007. And along the way, the fund distributed $24,000 to six Akron-area agencies for programs and services benefiting the GLBT community.

Sixth annual Sugar Plum holiday home tour set for Dec. 2

AKRON, OH - Six of the area’s finest historic and contemporary homes will open their doors Sun., Dec. 2 for the sixth annual Sugar Plum Tour. Tour-goers will enjoy residences from historic West Hill to Fairlawn Heights, including a Jacobethan Revival-style home on the National Register of Historic Places and a Tudor Revival home said to be designed by Roy Firestone.

In 2006 it all came together for GCEF. We began distributing ReachingOUT, the electronic newsletter of GCEF, we received a Challenge Grant from the Gill Foundation, we distributed grants to organizations that will benefit our LGBT community specifically and the greater Akron community as a whole and we published our first Annual Report.
